Best beaches and bays in Jersey

Jersey has a beautiful coastline with many nice beaches and picturesque bays to explore. The most popular beach on the island is St Brelade and also the beautiful Beauport beach on the south coast. On the north coast, the most beautiful beaches are the organised beach of Greve de Lecq and the stunning Plemont beach.

Swimming is possible in Jersey but the water can be cold even in the summertime.

Below is a list of the 15 best beaches and bays on the island.

1. St Brelade’s Bay

St. Brelade’s Bay is one of Jersey’s most popular and picturesque beaches, known for its golden sands, clear waters, and vibrant promenade.

The beach’s expanse of golden sand makes it an ideal spot for sunbathing, picnics, and beach activities. St. Brelade’s Bay offers a range of water activities, including paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. The calm and shallow waters make it suitable for families with kids.

The bay is lined with charming cafés, restaurants, beachside kiosks boutiques, and ice cream stands, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy strolls along the waterfront promenade while taking in the sea views.

Overlooking the bay is St. Brélade’s Church, a historic parish church with a distinctive fisherman’s chapel.

St. Brelade’s Bay is also a starting point for several scenic coastal walks. The cliffside paths offer stunning views of the bay and the surrounding coastline.

2. Greve de Lecq

Greve de Lecq is a scenic bay located on the north coast of Jersey.

The bay features a beautiful sandy beach and a sheltered cove, making it a popular spot for sunbathing, picnics, and family outings. The clear waters are suitable for swimming and various water activities.

Along the small promenade, there is a hotel, a cafe and a kiosk that offer food and refreshments with views of the bay.

On the west side, there is a small harbour with a pier that provides nice views over the bay.

3. Plemont Beach

Plemont Beach is a stunning sandy cove located on the north coast of Jersey. With fine sand and a backdrop of cliffs and greenery, Plemont Beach is one of Jersey’s most beautiful and pristine beaches.

It is reachable on foot from the car park at the top of the bay via a small path and some steps.

The cliffs surrounding Plemont Beach have caves that can be explored during low tide. At low tide, visitors can also explore the rock pools along the beach.

The Plemont Bay Café, located near the beach, provides refreshments and snacks. Visitors can enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee while taking in the views.

4. St Ouen’s Bay

St. Ouen’s Bay is a magnificent stretch of coastline located on the western side of Jersey.

St. Ouen’s Bay has a long and wide sandy beach, making it one of the largest and most popular beaches on the island. The beach is known for its golden sands and is a great place for beach and water activities.

The bay is known for its powerful waves, making it a favourite destination for surfers. Surf schools operate in the area, offering lessons for both beginners and experienced surfers.

Beyond surfing, St. Ouen’s Bay offers opportunities for various water activities, including bodyboarding, kite surfing, and windsurfing.

A scenic coastal path runs along St. Ouen’s Bay, providing walkers and hikers with greatviews of the bay. There are also various interesting towers along the path.

At the southern end of St. Ouen’s Bay, you’ll find La Rocco Tower, accessible at low tide. It’s a picturesque spot and there is a nice cafe (Le Braye Cafe) for a bite to eat overlooking the bay.

5. Beauport Beach

Beauport Beach is a beautiful and secluded sandy beach located on the southwestern coast of Jersey, near St Brelade’s Bay.

Known for its scenic surroundings, clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere, Beauport Beach is a favourite among locals and visitors. There are no beach facilities at the beach.

The cliffs surrounding Beauport Beach offer nice views of the bay and the surrounding landscape.

Access to Beauport Beach involves a short walk from the car park via as teep path.

6. Bouley Bay

Bouley Bay is located on the north coast of Jersey and it has a nice pebble beach surrounded by green cliffs.

The bay features a small harbour that offers some nice views towards the bay and surrounding coastline.

There is only a hotel with a restaurant overlooking the bay, and some apartments further inland.

The bay is home to a diving centre and it is ideal for water activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkelling.

7. Portelet Beach

Portelet Beach is a picturesque sandy cove located on the south coast of Jersey.

It is surrounded by cliffs and has no beach facilities. There is only a small beach café, providing refreshments and snacks.

Access to Portelet Beach involves a short walk and some steps from the parking area.

The bay is home to Portelet Tower, a historical defensive tower that dates back to the 19th century. The tower was built as part of Jersey’s coastal defence system and it is accessible at low tide.

8. Grouville Bay & Gorey Beach

Grouville Bay, located on the eastern side of Jersey, has a very long and wide sandy beach at low tide.

Grouville Bay is known for its significant tidal range. During low tide, vast expanses of sand are exposed, creating opportunities for exploring tide pools, collecting shells, and taking long walks along the shoreline.

Adjacent to Grouville Bay is the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf with a picturesque backdrop. Fort Henry is part of the Golf Course and provides nice views of the bay.

Gorey Beach is located in the northern part of Grouville Bay and south of Gorey.

9. La Roque Harbour

La Rocque Harbor is a charming little harbour with a variety of fishing boats and a scenic promenade overlooking Seymour Tower out at sea.

The bay is particularly attractive at low tide.

The harbour is protected by a stone harbour wall, and visitors can walk along this wall for nice views of the rocky seascape and the various rock pools.

10. Bonne Nuit

Bonne Nuit is a picturesque harbour and village located on the north coast of Jersey.

The harbour is surrounded by cliffs and provides shelter for fishing boats and vessels. There is also a small beach but it is not the best place for swimming.

There is a small stoned pier that you can walk on or have a coffee/lunch at the Thai Cafe.

11. St Aubin’s Bay

St Aubin’s Bay is a long and wide sandy bay located on the south coast of Jersey. The bay extends from St Aubin to St. Hellier.

There is a scenic path along the bay that provides views of the sea & Elizabeth Castle, and it is ideal for walking or cycling.

Boat tours and sea excursions depart from St. Aubin or St. Hellier, providing opportunities for visitors to explore the coastline, nearby islands, and enjoy the marine environment.

12. Le Hocq & Green Island Beach

Both bays are located next to each other on the south coast of Jersey.

They are picturesque spots for a stroll during low tide and a great place to enjoy the rocky seascape and explore the various rock pools.

13. Anne Port

Anne Port is a pebble beach located on the eastern coast of Jersey, north of Gorey.

The beach is popular with swimmers and mainly locals and it has limited parking and facilities.

It is a good place to start the kayaking when you head around to Mont Orgueil castle.

14. Archirondel Beach

Archirondel Beach is a pebble beach located on the eastern coast of Jersey.

There is a pleasant cafe, some restrooms and a small parking area.

It is not as popular, but it is a nice place for a pit stop and a coffee with the Archirondel Tower on the north side.

15. Havre des Pas

Havre des Pas is a popular seaside spot in St. Hellier with a nice promenade and its iconic seawater swimming pool.

The pool, built into the sea wall, provides a safe environment for swimmers. It is especially popular during the summer months.

There is a Lido, a pavilion with its distinctive architecture that houses changing rooms, facilities, and offers a place for visitors to relax after a swim.

Havre des Pas has a small sandy beach area adjacent to the seawater pool.

A coastal promenade stretches along Havre des Pas providing a scenic walk with views of the sea and the pool.

The area around Havre des Pas has varous cafés and restaurants.
